Autumn 2005 Rally Reports - Part 5

Collingham
22nd to 25th August 2005

Fourteen caravans arrived on Monday for this ‘Free and easy rally’. The cricket club grounds were ideal, with a lovely view of the sports field itself when the sun was shining. Unfortunately when Arthur & Pat arrived they got soaked setting up, but when we arrived the sun had appeared to welcome us.

Most of those attending had been to the Steam and Vintage rally, so were having a relaxing time before travelling on to the AGM rally at Nottingham. Newark and Lincoln were the places to visit during our stay, and we also had a quiz to puzzle over.

Arthur Roberts did the honours with the Rally Plaque and suggested the rally be run again next year as a preliminary to the 2006 AGM rally being held in Cambridgeshire.

The Lawns Cherry Burton
30th August to 6 September 2005

We gathered at this peaceful location on Tuesday afternoon, and the heading in the Rally Book is ‘The Lawns’ and that is what it was, a nice level site, short grass, in fact idyllic.

Nine vans arrived on Tuesday and were welcomed by our Rally Marshals Jim and Janet. Tuesday night saw us at their van for tea and coffee plus biscuits.

On Wednesday we were invited by our Rally Marshals once again for refreshments. Friday night saw the workers start to arrive. Eight vans arrived and once again it was tea and coffee and meet with our friends who still have to work for a living.

Saturday saw most of us depart for the caravan show at ‘The Lawns’ at Hull University, which if anyone has not attended is well worth a visit. Saturday night saw most of us at the local, The Bay Horse, for a meal, and what a meal, one person who sat opposite me had a mixed grill, and it would have lasted me two or three days.

Sunday morning was time for flag and presentation of rally plaques to our Marshals, and a prize to our competition winners who were Geraldine and Ken. Thank you Jim and Janet for a very good rally in a good location.
