Summer 2005 Rally Reports - Part 3

Binton
25th to 28th March 2005

For many of us this was the start of the Rallying year and so faithfully we gathered at the appointed place where our noble Marshals, John and Margaret Vernon, assisted by their loyal deputies, Charles and Pauline Bayliss were holding Court.

We very quickly occupied the field (and car park) of the Social club and prepared for our stay. We were soon joined by our very own Town Crier, Derek Jackson, who had brought his uniform with him as the Rally coincided with a Town Criers Competition in Alcester.

Flag on Friday evening was held in the Social club with John and Margaret welcoming everyone to the Rally, whilst on Saturday several Ralliers went to cheer on Derek in his Town-crier competition where he came fourth. The evening saw us all gathering in the club for a chicken and chips supper, and very good it was too, followed by a disco.

Flag on Monday saw our President, Derek again centre-stage, this time making some well deserved presentations, firstly to our New Ralliers, John Collins and Pat Haylor. Then he moved on to present John and Margaret Vernon with their 100 Rallies Plaque (see photo)

Not to be outdone, the juniors came next with Chloe Kent also receiving her 100 Rallies cup.

Tuesday saw the end of yet another fantastic Rally, Well done and thank you to John, Margaret, Charles and Pauline.

Brompton On Swale   30th March to 4th April 2005
It was good to see it was one of Tom Stobbs’ Rallies, with sunshine all the way after the poor weather the weekend before at Scarborough. Twenty one vans were in attendance for what was to become a great Rally. Five of our Ralliers were committee members and had to depart early on Saturday morning for the committee meeting at Oxton, about a two hour drive.
Some of our ladies were busy all day preparing for the evening social, thank you very much. As it was Matty and Lily Wilkinsons 50th Wedding Anniversary (see photo) Tom did them proud with a meal fit for royalty, he and his helpers had prepared a three course meal. What a night we had as Matty had also provided the cake, wine, spirits and live entertainment including a couple of songs of his own.

It was nice to see some familiar faces, that of June Fowler and Margaret Gillance. June had come over every day to help Tom. Derek Pedder did the honours on Sunday morning. It was the afternoon before most weekenders left as the sun was still shining and the Rally finished on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone involved.

Calverton
1st to 3rd April 2005

This Rally usually attracts a good crowd and this year we were joined by the resident Scouts, what a great bunch of kids they were too! We met for a coffee at Steve & Petra’s on Friday evening, but thankfully people refrained from singing any campfire songs.

On Saturday a group of very hard working ladies and gentlemen had to go to a nearby village hall to a committee meeting to slave and slog on your behalf, HONEST! A meal was arranged at the local hostelry on Saturday night, after which the junior members some how managed to empty our pockets of loose change in the name of their chosen charity at bar skittles. They seemed to know all the rules and also managed to make them up better than us. Well Done Kids!

On Sunday, Ken our Chairman thanked Steve and Petra for running a super and very enjoyable Rally as they always do. Please run it again next year.
