Summer 2005 Rally Reports - Part 4

Crowland
8th to 13th April 2005

Here we are, our first ever Rally, and our maiden voyage with our caravan. What a welcome we received! Everyone was so friendly and willing to offer us some advice and reassurance. We went out on Saturday night to Fryday’s Fish & Chip Restaurant and they were superb, not to mention the pudding!!! Thank you to Christine.

Flag on Sunday Gordon & Jim welcomed new Ralliers and old Ralliers alike and presented plaques and prizes. We adorned the front window of our caravan with the new club logo sticker and adorned our jackets with the new club logo enamel pins. We had such a good time we booked another two Rallies whilst still on this Rally.

Thank you to Jim, Janet, Gordon, Joan, Gil, Edmund & Daphne for all your kind help and support during our time with you.

Ossington
14th to 17th April 2005

We gathered at this very peaceful location just five miles north of Newark on a gently sloping field with good all round views. It was very wet on arrival but we managed to get settled and head off for a welcoming cuppa in George and Ann’s awning.

With thirteen units in attendance it was a little cosy, but nice to meet New Ralliers Seamus and Maureen Greene from Lincoln. Saturday saw many head off to the local market in Newark and enjoy some retail therapy. The evening was booked in the Great Northern Inn alongside the London – Edinburgh train line, and everyone came along and put the chef under a little pressure with some 30 meals demanded on our arrival! They coped very well and pleasant rumblings were heard during the consumption of the meals. The club found itself embarrassed however, by the antics of a member who was seen to chase the young barmaids behind the bar, his wife explained that he is under the doctor! He will of course remain nameless and occasionally tries to deceive by dressing as Elvis, but we know who you are! An excellent night with the Elddis club once again.

Sunday came along with some sunshine and flag was held outdoors, it was great to see the new flag flying proudly in the breeze as George and Ann were thanked by Stewart Sellers for running this event and our New Ralliers formally welcomed.

Rally equipment included a first, with a pair of his and hers wellies available to the highest bidder, but this was quickly scotched when the true owner realised he was bidding to buy his own after some enterprising member had acquired them without his knowledge. Elvis are you watching? I’m looking forward to another great weekend here next year.

Huddersfield
21st to 24th April 2005

The Rally opened on Thursday lunchtime for the first arrivals, with the majority of Ralliers arriving on Friday evening to a warm welcome from Derek & Freda. Everyone gathered at the Marshals van for coffee, tea, biscuits & a natter.

Saturday was a bright day & most went out to explore the locality and to return for the social in the pub which featured a special St Georges day menu. This was enjoyed by all, including some members who had arranged to come along for the social. Sunday morning came around all too soon, however, before flag Derek & John had to remove their laundry from the flag pole (I wonder how it got there?) After flag it was time to pack up & head for home. Many thanks go to Derek & Freda for another excellent Rally on a site with fantastic views across Huddersfield & the Pennines.
