After a splendid holiday weekend in Corbridge, seven units travelled to
Jedburgh, to be joined by a further four vans including two weekenders.
How Tom manages to find such lovely sites we do not know, he says he ‘just
drives around’. Ashview stud, Ancrum, had the most beautiful
views over toward the Cheviot Hills and we were all sited to enable
us to enjoy this to the full.
On arrival the sun was shining and we
all hoped for a continuation of the sunshine we had had in Corbridge.
We were not disappointed; it is however safe to say, that we had sunshine,
showers, breezes, and hail, often on one day! This did nothing to spoil
our enjoyment of the area and all the Ralliers were out and about visiting
and re-visiting the lovely abbeys and castles in the area.
Coffee on
the first evening was served in Tom’s awning, as a shower decided
to descend at 8pm; this seemed to set the pattern for Tom’s socials.
Even though he tried to ‘beat’ the weather by having the
socials early, they were always interrupted by rain, and we were all
scurrying backwards and forwards to our vans with the food Tom, Matty
and Lily had prepared.
After a day out exploring the area it was nice
to come back to a hot meal, so thanks to everyone for their hard
work. At flag Peter Turner thanked Tom and his helpers for all their
hard
work and expressed the hope that the Rally would be run again next
year. Sadly for the workers it was time to leave, but eight vans
remained for a few more days. At the end of the Rally three units went
on to
Roslin. |
Fifteen vans attended the Rally, welcomed
by Andy and Jill assisted by ‘Geoff
the joker Jones’. The site is beautifully kept; the grass is perfect
although the owner did say he was hoping to have it cut before we arrived.
It was lovely to see the grey mare and her young filly running around
the paddock.
Saturday most of the members went visiting Stratford or
other
local sites. The weather unfortunately was changeable in the evening
so most of the members stayed in their vans and ‘partied’
Sunday
at flag Jim James presented Sophie Kent with her cup for her 100th
Rally, well done Sophie! Also a birthday card to Lyndon for his ??? Birthday.
Lyndon and Ruth also won the competition. Pauline then thanked Jill
and
Andy for running the Rally hoping they would run it again. |
This Rally took place in a field behind the
Bickerton Poacher Pub and sixteen caravans attended. The weather was
sunny with a cold wind, but Bob
and Pauline had erected a marquee, so we were able to gather together
for socials without feeling too chilly.
A Skittles evening was arranged
in the pub - ladies against gents. Eric Loveridge and Pam Kemp were
the winners of the two teams and they then played against each other
and Pam Kemp was the overall winner. A room was booked in the pub on
another evening and we all had an enjoyable meal and chat.
Other socials
included an evening of music played by Eric Loveridge on his Technics
keyboard in the marquee and Bob and Pauline arranged a Cheese and Wine
evening which included salads and trifles etc. This social was for
Bob’s forthcoming birthday and was paid for by Pauline, who had
bought rather a lot of food so we had to have another Cheese and Wine
Party the next evening!!!
There were a couple of unforeseen snags -
Pat Speight unfortunately broke a bone in her foot and was confined
to her caravan for the whole Rally and George and Beryl Nuttall’s
car broke down and they returned home at the end of the Rally with
car and caravan on a low-loader.
This was Bob and Pauline’s first
attempt at running a Rally and it was a great success. Their Rally
Marshals plaque was presented to them by Janet Jones, who was not on
the Rally but lived fairly close by. |
