Summer 2006 Rally Reports - Part 2

Roecliffe
13th to 18th April 2006

Thirty units arrived at this lovely site behind the Crown Inn in the little village of Roecliffe. Derek quickly had everyone in situ.

In the evening we all gathered at the Marshals van for tea and coffee. On Saturday we went into Boroughbridge to a local hall for our social. We had a delicious meal of pie and vegetables and potatoes followed by a choice of desserts – mmm – yummy!! After our meal a visitor dropped in. ‘Tweety Pie’ came strutting in and clucking, and after great hilarity delivered a golden egg which he gave to Derek Childs to celebrate his birthday.

Shortly after that Charlotte and James Medley brought in a birthday cake for Derek and a very happy birthday party we all had. Later the same evening we all enjoyed a game of bingo organised by John and Shirley (Assistant Marshals) not the usual game as this time it was for BIG MONEY!! All too soon the social was over.

Flag was officiated over by Darren who gave Derek and Freda and John and Shirley their well earned plaques.

What a great weekend. I look forward to next year.

Easter-egg Rally - Abbots Ripton
13th to 18th April 2006

We arrived on site in fabulous sunshine and greeted with an equally sunny reception. Friday night we had hot, hot crossed buns with our tea and coffee had a brilliant game of card bingo with prizes of chocolates for every ‘house’ shouted!

Saturday afternoon was an absolute treat we were served with soup for starters followed by half a chicken and vegetables complete with gravy, fruit cocktail for dessert and finished off with cheese and biscuits. Thank you to Davina and Margaret for serving dinner, and a big thank you to Edmund, Daphne, Gordon and Joan for the wonderful meal they provided.

Sunday morning and the Easter Bunny went round and gave out her chocolate eggs. Teatime was another culinary treat of sandwiches, quiche and salad, scones etc. We were also treated to some Wedding Anniversary cake thanks to Eric and Barbara Loveridge. That evening we played a trivia quiz and Betty won with a score of 34.

Flag was held on Monday morning and Gordon presented Edmund and Daphne with their Rally Marshal Plaque and Edmund was going to present Gordon with an Assistant Rally Marshal Plaque, but didn’t have one so gave Gordon an I.O.U. Betty was awarded with a prize for her high score from the night before.

Binton
14th to 18 April 2006

First of all a big thank you to John and Margaret Vernon for running the Easter rally at Binton Social Club and their assistants (apprentices) Neale, Kerry and Danielle. Having asked nicely if we could arrive on the Thursday rather than Friday (to make the most of a shorter than normal Easter break) we arrived to find 3 other outfits plus the Vernon's 2 outfits already on site and another 1 arriving after us.

By tea-time on Friday though the rest of the 16 caravans and 2 motor homes booked in had arrived on site in very pleasant sunshine and settled in for a relaxing long weekend. A double booking of the social club resulted in an outside flag on Friday in a freshening breeze when new ralliers Norman & Phyliss Lever were welcomed to the EOC by President Jackson and Mrs Jackson and the programme for the weekend was outlined for us all by John.

Saturday was a free day and many ralliers took the opportunity to visit Alcester to support Derek at his annual Town Crier of the Year contest (or something like that anyway).

Saturday evening saw us all gathered in the social club for a marvellous chicken and chips supper followed by a selection of calorie laden puds - and a few beers. Entertainment followed later in the form of a disco to allow the guilty among us to burn off a few of the aforementioned calories - or not.

Easter Sunday came and went with the good and godly shuffling off to Church in the morning and the planned barbeque in the evening having to be cancelled due the ever present freshening (but chilly) breeze. The evening's bingo, run by the social club, attracted a number of ralliers and Jamie-Lee came away desperate to spend her "flyer" winnings as soon as possible.

Flag was held on the Monday morning for the benefit of those who had to return to work on Tuesday with Pauline Bayliss presenting the Vernon’s with their Marshal and Assistant Plaques; John Vernon presenting flowers to just about everybody and prizes to the kids for their various competitions and to Derek Jackson for winning the 5 way adults quiz tie-breaker.

Unfortunately the James' (plumbers in), the Kents (new business to start) and Louise Pharis (poorly car) had to miss this rally (although Louise came to the social on Saturday) and I have to say – you missed another good one!
