Summer 2006 Rally Reports - Part 4

Tynedale Rugby Club

28th April to 2 May 2006

Twenty six caravans assembled just outside Corbridge on the Rugby ground to discover that an equine show called “Spirit of the Horse” was encamped in beautiful marquees on another part of the grounds. The horses and riders were from Spain, Germany, Italy and Russia and they were touring England until October. We thoroughly enjoyed all the activity and some of us over the weekend paid the entrance fee to watch a performance, which was excellent.

Saturday was a free day for visiting Corbridge and Hexham and the lovely countryside, then on Sunday evening we gathered in the Rugby club for a very good meal and lots of chat.

We also celebrated James Medley’s 10th birthday by singing the usual song.

At flag on Monday morning, Darren made the usual presentations with many thanks to Peter and Linda for running the rally. Also thanks go to Collette, Alan and Ralph for their assistance and Hazel and Len for running a raffle which made £51 for the children’s charity.

Jedburgh
2nd to 9th May 2006

Fourteen vans followed on from Corbridge, to be closely joined by two others, to Ashview Stud, Ancrum on a nice but windy day to be welcomed by Tom Stobbs. What a lovely site this is with views over the surrounding hills from every pitch. Tea and coffee on the first evening was served at Tom’s van.

The next couple of days were nice but windy and the big decision – does one go out to explore the surrounding border towns or find a sheltered spot and savour the view from the site? Whatever was decided all had to be back for the BBQ social on Thursday evening, which with the erection of windbreaks made it possible to sit out.

Friday saw everyone going their varying ways to make the most of this beautiful area to be back for tea and coffee in the evening to welcome the two weekenders.

Saturday dawned bright with a promise of rain later so Tom told us to cross our fingers to keep the rain at bay until after the evening social to be followed by flag. We must have all done a good job as it was windbreaks up again and we all enjoyed a lovely meal supplied by Tom and his helpers in the dry. How they prepare such an excellent meal in the limited space is amazing.

Peter Turner then thanked Rally Marshall Tom and Assistant Marshall Matty and Lily Wilkinson and presented them with their plaques and then low and behold the rain started.

Sunday dawned wet but the rain stopped long enough for coffee and goodbyes to those leaving.

Monday once again was lovely but windy, last minute sight seeing and awnings down ready for the off Tuesday.

Many thanks to Tom, Matty and Lily for their hard work and also to Roy Kay who was always on hand to help.

We all hope Tom will run a rally here again next year.

West Wick - The Final Rally

Pauline and Charles Bayliss would like to thank Derek and Jenny Birchell for the beautiful Elddis Owners cake that they made and presented to us for flag at our Final Rally in West Wick. A big thanks also goes to all members that have supported us over the last 6 years.
Pauline and Charles.

Joy and Tom Randall.

We were sorry to hear Joy and Tom Randall have had to part with their Elddis caravan. This is due to Tom’s failing health; it must have been a big wrench for them after so many years as members of our club. They have run many successful rallies over the years, and have done many kindnesses to other members. This being the reason he was the first recipient of the ‘Dave Bain Trophy’. Joy and Tom will be greatly missed from future ralies, he with that naughty twinkling eye!! I’m sure they’ll be remembered with great affection. Keep smiling Tom and get well soon.

Thelma (Welsh Dragon Hey).
